Your ecological gadgets blogThe Mansfield Container House is a small L-shaped house made up of two unused shipping containers that are joined together to form a small free-standing cabin.Container homes have redefined modern architecture.Designers and architects from all over the world have turned to disused shipping containers to turn them into small isolated houses.Cost-effective, ecological and modular, shipping containers are the ideal model for designers and architects to unleash their creativity. In the foothills of the Australian Alps, Melbourne-based architect Robbie Walker merged two disused shipping containers to form a small freestanding cabin for family vacations and solo retreats.Dubbed the Mansfield Container House after the town in which it is located, Walker's tiny house is made up of two 20-foot shipping containers totaling 30 square feet.Coated in heavy-duty paint, Walker hoped to maintain the shipping container's industrial personality on the outside.Inside, the walls are clad in natural, polished plywood, helping to enhance the heavy-duty look of the exterior.Forming a right angle, the two shipping containers are connected by a hydraulic external cover that folds from one of the two containers.Directly in front of the retractable deck, residents and guests can make use of the outdoor space with a large fireplace that can be used all year round.Behind the folding cover, the residents of the small house enjoy enough space for a living room, a bathroom and a kitchen, which is equipped with a folding table and a folding bed for guests. In the other container is the main bedroom, in which there is a double pull-down bed and a triple bunk bed with self-inflating mattresses. To save space and avoid unnecessary crowding between the two containers, a toilet and sink can also be accessed from the container in the bedroom.Equipped with everything you need for off-grid living, the Mansfield Container House is fully equipped with solar power and water treatment systems.Photovoltaic panels were placed on the roof to generate and store solar energy, while water tanks were built on the roof to conserve 1,000 liters of rainwater.Additionally, an integrated steel screen provides some shade for those sunny days when the residents of the tiny house want to rest on the terrace.Because the cabin is not connected to the power grid, it has its own catalog of operational tasks, as Walker explains: "It's similar to the way a sailor must operate a yacht: you have to open a window to catch the breeze and close it in the right time to avoid the bugs. But that's part of the fun.It brings you closer to the elements and to nature in this beautiful part of the world.”Your email address will not be published.Required fields are marked with *I have read and accept the privacy policy *Copyright EcoInventos © 2022
