JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was shot and killed Sunday night after investigators say he tried to get into a woman’s home in Jacksonville’s Englewood neighborhood.

At a news briefing Monday morning, Sgt. Chris Stephens, with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, said a woman called 911 around 11:20 p.m. and then hung up. The Sheriff’s Office said that when officers responded to the call placed from one of the homes in a mobile home park near Philips Highway and Putnam Avenue, a woman told police that a man tried to get into her home and she shot him.

Police said they searched the area and found a man who had been shot nearby. The man died at the scene, according to police.

Investigators said the man and woman were involved in some sort of a relationship. The woman is being questioned by investigators, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Stephens said investigators swept the area for witnesses. Police also planned to collect footage that was recorded from surveillance cameras from a business next door with multiple vantage points overlooking the park.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call JSO at 904-630-0500 or First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS (8477).
